MBE Art Update: Dot Day!

This year Dot Day was celebrated the first two weeks of art instead of just on September 15th.

We read Peter H. Reynolds The Dot and discussed the importance of “making our mark matter.”

Each student created a dot using an analogous color scheme.

You can see our group collaboration in the showcase in the hall outside the sensory room!

Enjoy!

The Lyons Letter: Why I Can’t Skip Reading With My Kid(s)

Greetings, Meadow Brook Partners!

Why is it so critical to include 20 minutes of reading in your child’s daily schedule?

There is a wealth of research supporting daily reading with your child especially prior and during the period when he/she is learning to read.

Here are a few ways that reading for 20 (or more) minutes a day benefits your child.

1. Reading is brain food—the experience of reading (whether you are the reader or the one being read to) activates and “exercises” many of the areas of the brain.

2. Reading improves listening skills.

3. Reading builds early literacy skills—phonics, phonemic awareness, concepts of print, word knowledge,

4. Practice makes better—the more exposure the stronger the skill.

5. Reading improves academic performance.

6. Reading improves relationships—there is nothing more wonderful then spending 20 minutes one-on-one with a child.

Wishing you joyful reading!

Mrs. Lyons

First Lego League Interest Survey?

Greetings, Meadow Brook Partners!

One of last week’s messages was about the First Lego League Jr. team that’s starting up at Meadow Brook this year (Link: First Lego League Jr. Is Here!)

Please follow this link to express interest if you have it: First Lego League Interest Form

Please do this right away as we have a limited amount of time to get things started for the fall.

Thanks!
