Partnerships Drive Enrichment at Meadow Brook!

I am so proud to be a Meadow Mouse, and so grateful for all the Meadow Brook Heroes who are dedicating their time and energy to drive enrichment for our kids!

If you missed it, the first Meadow Brook First Lego League Jr. Expo happened yesterday!  It might as well have been a rock concert!

Mr. and Mrs. Vittorini and their crew of parent coaches and volunteers were our in force along with the Rochester High School “Faclons Engineering Design Solutions (FEDS) team, and our incredible community of parents and relatives there to support this year’s ten problem solving, collaborative, robotics teams!  Yes…ten!

Also, our incredible group of Math Pentathlon thinkers are well underway toward representing MBE in competition in 2019!

Special thanks to the MBE PTA and our incredible team of parent Math Pentathlon leaders who are making sure this important program thrives at Meadow Brook!

Autism Awareness: Looking Inside & Love

Greetings, Meadow Brook Partners!

One of the greatest sources of pride for all Meadow Brook Heroes that we are a diverse learning community, sharing our journey together with compassion, kindness, and love!

We live and learn with a growth mindset, which means with hard work, dedication, and open minds and hearts we know we can alway get better in any area of focus.

Here’s the thoughtful & creative John Spencer sharing his thinking on Carol Dweck’s work around Growth Mindset if you’re interested:

At Meadow Brook, one of things we are constantly seeking to grow is our understanding and apperception for one another.

This week I woful ask you to think about autism.

Did you know that some of our friends are not yet able to communicate in ways that most others their age are?  Not yet.

This communication challenge can lead to unique frustrations and even communication that can seem out of the ordinary and even confusing at times.

As we think about autism and communication this week, let’s work with one another and with our incredible students to strive for growth in our already compassionate school community.

Let’s remember that the best way to communication is on a foundation of love.  After all, our shared love, understanding, and a dedication to kindness makes this world a better place for all of us with each passing day.

Thank you for Generously Donating Gifts to Rochester Area Neighborhood House MBE!

Thank you Meadow Brook families for your generosity again this holiday season in supporting the Rochester Area Neighborhood House’s annual Holiday Giving Tree program.

With your help we were able to fill 49 tags and provide dozens of family card/board games to RANH who will help approx. 400 kids this holiday!  Thank you!

If you missed our deadline but would still like to donate, RANH has an urgent need still for teen and middle school board games such as  Guesstures, Jenga, Telestrations, Gotcha, or 5-second Rule.

Also, needed are hats and mittens or gloves for elementary and teen girls.  These additional items can be dropped off Monday, 12/10 at First Congregational Church located at 1315 N. Pine, Rochester, MI 48307.

You are all Meadow Brook Heroes!

Planning For Our Annual MBE Spring Carnival Is Underway…We Need You!

It might seem far off, but planning for our annual MBE Spring Carnival is already underway and we need your help.

For those who might not know, the Spring Carnival is the top fundraiser for MBE’s PTA, and a wonderful family event! 

It takes many volunteers to make this event both successful and fun for our students and families.

This year’s carnival will be held on the evening of Friday April 12th at West Middle School.

Our first planning meeting will be held on Tuesday December 18th at 6:00 p.m. in the Meadow Brook Media Center. 

At this meeting we are looking to finalize the coordinators for the various carnival committees, get a start on classroom baskets, brainstorm great ideas to make the carnival even more successful, and more.

This is a great meeting to attend to learn more about what carnival really is and how it benefits our school. There are all kinds of ways and involvement levels to help with carnival! 

If you have been contemplating becoming more involved in our fantastic PTA, this is a great and worthwhile cause to test the waters and have some fun with lots of wonderful people!

If you are interested in helping with the carnival but are unable to make the December 18th meeting, please contact Emily Perez at esawdon@gmail.com.

Box Tops For Education Update

A big thank you to all who have turned in Box Tops.

Thanks to you, in December, our PTA will receive a check from Box Tops For Education in the amount of $803!

We still have time to earn more money for Meadow Brook.

Watch for the December/January collection sheet (included in this newsletter and sent out with the Message from the Meadow.  

The next due date will be January 31st.

However, you may turn in your Box Tops at any time and you don’t need to glue or tape them to the collection sheet.

Just place them in a Ziploc bag and don’t forget to include your child’s name and teacher.

We will not be conducting a book give-away in January due to the holidays.

Any child who submits any number of Box Tops in December or January will be entered into the book drawing in February.

Meadow Brook held its Art Show/Award Ceremony on Monday, November 26. There were 33 awesome works of art, created by 25 very talented MBE students.

The MBE Talent Show is Coming!

Calling all Meadow Brook talent!

We are looking for singers, musicians, comedians, dancers, magicians and performers to show off your skills at the upcoming Talent Show.

This is a positive, fun, family event that brings the entire school together.

The holiday break is the perfect time to think about and work on your acts.

Talent Show permission forms are available in the main office.

All currently enrolled MBE students are invited to perform.

Individual performances and group acts are welcome. 

Only 30 acts will be accepted and submissions will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. 

Once your application is received you will be contacted via email with a confirmation of your song request and act. 

Group acts are strongly encouraged, which will allow more students to perform in the show.

2019 Talent Show Important Dates: 

January 9th: Signed Talent Show Permission Forms Due in the front office by 4 p.m. (Late forms will not be accepted, no exceptions)

January 14th: Music Due (late submissions will not be accepted)

January 22nd: Auditions 4-7 p.m.

March 5th: Dress Rehearsal 5-8 p.m.

March 7th: Talent Show 6-9 p.m. (Snow Date: March 14th)
